Mubasher: Kaspersky announced on Tuesday that it has uncovered a malware targeting the users of the desktop version of Telegram.

The malicious software has been used to target Russian users of the messaging app since March 2017, according to Kaspersky.

It was designed to trick users of Telegram’s desktop computer software into enlisting their machines to mine cryptocurrencies like Monero and Zcash, the company said as cited by Reuters.

Telegram is the ninth most popular mobile messaging app in the world, it is expecting users to reach 200 million by the end of the first quarter of 2018.
