Istanbul, Jan.8(BNA): Turkey slammed Iranian media reports which attacked its leader President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for refusing to condemn the Saudi execution of terrorist Nimr Baqer Al-Nimr.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said: "We strongly condemn reports published in press outlets linked to official Iranian bodies and demand the campaign targeting our president to stop immediately".

The ministry said that the attacks on Saudi Arabian embassy in Tehran and consulate in Meshed were "completely unacceptable and inexplicable".

The ministry also said last Wednesday that the execution of Nimr Baqer Al-Nimr which sparked a crisis between Riyadh and Tehran represented a Saudi "Internal affair".

Last week, President Erdogan paid a two-day official visit to Riyadh signalling an improvement of relations between Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
