Former Indian President Abdul Kalam passes away

New Delhi, July 28 (BNA): Former Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam passed away following his collapse during a speech he was delivering in an Indian management institute on Monday aged 84.

Indian news agency, PTI, reported that Kalam, who was India's president between 2002 and 2005 passed away following a suspected cardiac arrest while addressing students at the Indian Institute of Management in the capital of northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya, Shillong.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh and several political leaders and former prime ministers the condoled India on Kalam's sudden demise, while local television stations reported that the entire nation descended into sorrow following his death.
