MANAMA: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday that Eid al-Fitr would begin on 17 July 2015, as Muslims around the world mark the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

The moon sighting committee in Saudi Arabia met on Thursday to observe the moon and the Saudi Royal Court statement widely quoted by global media confirmed the moon sighting of the month of Shawwal on Friday, 17, July, 2015. Accordingly the GCC States will also celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday.

Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Fitr to mark the culmination of Ramadan, while determining the exact date depends on observing the Shawwal moon.
