School Mini Olympics on track

Manama, Nov. 12 (BNA): Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has started its preparations for the fifth edition of the School Mini Olympics, to be organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education in March.

Students from 38 governmental and private schools will compete in a variety of sports during this year’s event, held for the fifth successive year.

There will be 22 sports events lined up this year, including tennis, cycling, sailing, open water swimming, badminton, fencing, judo and karate, to name a few.

A preparatory meeting with representatives of the participating government and private schools, headed by Lounes Madene, to look into latest arrangements and preparations for the festivities.

Madene talked about the previous four editions of the Mini Olympics, which had less number of sports compared to this year’s event.

It was also decided that registration for the fifth edition will begin on January 25, while deadline has been scheduled for February 5. The first technical meeting is confirmed to take place on March 1, 2018.

It’s held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of HM the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee president.
