Jeddah, Oct 9. (BNA): The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Dr. Yousef A. Othaimeen, strongly condemned the assassination of Nampula Mayor, Mahamudo Amurane, and the series of attacks on police stations in northern Mozambique causing the death of around ten people and the injury of many others.

The OIC Secretary General expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He said that the murder of an elected official is an unacceptable act, and so are attacks on police stations.

He therefore called on the relevant authorities of the country to launch investigations so as to arrest the perpetrators of such acts so that they could be brought to justice and punished in accordance with the law.

Dr. Yousef A. Othaimeen affirmed the OIC's support to the Government of Mozambique and encouraged it to continue its efforts to ensure good governance and preserve the country’s peace and stability.
